Beyond Meat- Sweet Italian Sausage

A year and a half ago, my husband and I decided to go to a 100% plant-based diet. I remember the thoughts running through my head. “I can barely cook ‘regular’ food. How will I learn to cook a specialty diet?” and “Will we not sound rude when we turn down our friends food at special occasions?” Of course, I learned how to handle both of those pressing dilemmas, but one I still struggle with is holiday BBQs!

I, mean,  seriously. Eating Bar-B-Que’d chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers is only natural to us Americans. At least, I think it is. Instead of suffering through the mouth water smells every year, I have slowly found ways to keep the good ‘ol American tradition alive.

Im writing this on the 4th of July,  so I thought I would share my experience with a sausage alternative I recently found at Whole Foods: ‘Beyond Meat-Plant-Based Italian Sausage’. 

My husband followed the instructions and grilled the sausage for  3 minutes on each side. I placed them in a Hawaiian hot dog bun, topped them with relish, ketchup and mustard. What were the results??

DELICIOUS!! I couldn’t even believe it was an alternative and not the real deal!

These will definitely be used for holidays to come and anytime we need to entertain our meat loving guests.
